South Korea’s household medical expenses increased by 50% in the past 10 years

According to Yonhap News Agency, overall consumer spending by Korean households has increased by 4% in the past 10 years, but health expenditures, including medical expenses, have increased by more than 50%.

According to the Household Trend Survey of the Korean National Statistics Portal, the average monthly consumption expenditure of all households last year was 2.451 million won, an increase of 4.3% from 10 years ago.

On the other hand, the average monthly medical expenses last year was 230,000 won, an increase of 50.3% from 153,000 won 10 years ago.

Among all expenditure items, medical expenditure was the only one to increase by more than 50%, followed by entertainment and culture expenditure, which increased by 35%.
