Sarawak is planning to build five data centers by 2030 to drive economic growth in the state. Governor Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this provides opportunities for cross-border data flow in Sarawak, which is an ideal location for data center investments due to its availability of space and reliable and sustainable energy supply. He pointed out that the data center is the engine of the digital revolution and currently has a TIER IV data center, which is considered a green facility.

Abang Johari also introduced Sarawak’s digital economy plan, including investment in digital infrastructure to ensure high-speed Internet connectivity, with Internet coverage expected to reach 93.8% by the end of 2023. He believes that Sarawak will create an environment conducive to economic development and innovation, attract technology start-ups and digital skills improvement, while attracting investors in technology and digital services, and provide innovative solutions covering e-commerce, fintech, artificial intelligence and wisdom. urban planning and other fields.
