Officials from the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said that generative artificial intelligence (AI), which can generate text, photos, videos, codes and data, is expected to unlock billions of dollars in the country’s production potential.

DTI officials noted that generative AI will change the nature of jobs rather than replace them entirely, so the private sector and government are working to reskill and upskill the nation’s workforce to better adapt to AI.

According to research by Access Partnership, generative AI is expected to unlock approximately US$75 billion in capacity for the Philippines, equivalent to one-fifth of GDP in 2022. This requires policymakers to clarify the national vision for AI, cultivate the workforce, and establish a favorable policy environment.
