Malaysia and Iran strengthen bilateral ties to explore new cooperation

Malaysian Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar said that Malaysia and Iran plan to improve bilateral relations, covering the fields of economy, education and science and technology, and explore new cooperation opportunities.

During talks with Iranian President Raisi on the sidelines of the 8th Special Summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the two sides expressed their willingness to strengthen bilateral relations. Anwar mentioned that the total trade volume between the two countries in 2022 will be RM3.68 billion, an increase of 40.2%, with oil palm as the main trading commodity.

The two sides also discussed Israel’s attacks on Palestine, agreeing that they should cease immediately and supporting relevant resolutions of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, calling for a ceasefire and more humanitarian assistance.
