South Korean media BK reported that Samsung Electronics is severing ties with China’s largest display company BOE and is reorganizing its supply chain. The move comes amid ongoing disputes over technology infringement and rising uncertainty in China due to tensions between China and the United States. Analysts believe the company aims to restructure partnerships and focus on domestic companies.

Industry insiders revealed on November 15 that in the third quarter, BOE not only fell out of the top three suppliers of TV panels to Samsung Electronics, but its market share also declined. BOE is a major supplier of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, accounting for about 10% of Samsung Electronics’ TV panel purchases in the first half of the year, ranking third among major panel suppliers.

In its third-quarter report, Samsung Electronics excluded BOE from its Device Experience (DX) unit’s list of major suppliers of display panels for TV and monitor screen equipment. This is the first time in nearly seven and a half years since the fourth quarter of 2015 that BOE has been excluded from being a key panel supplier for products such as televisions and smartphones.
