Samsung’s wafer foundry business is expected to turn around, because AMD’s new generation of chips using the Zen 5c architecture is planned to be manufactured by Samsung’s 4-nanometer process.

Samsung has lost major customers such as Apple, Nvidia, and Qualcomm, but the latest news shows that its 4-nanometer technology has greatly improved in terms of yield and performance. According to people familiar with the matter, AMD’s new generation of chips using the Zen 5c architecture includes many models. Low-end chips will be manufactured by Samsung’s 4nm process, and high-end chips will be manufactured by TSMC’s 3nm process.

If Samsung successfully obtains AMD orders, it will lay the foundation for its competition in the server market. Currently, Samsung and TSMC are the only two foundries in the world with 3nm and 5nm process technologies.
