Abu Dhabi has achieved a major milestone by becoming the world’s largest solar power plant site.

Completed on November 17, the Al Dhafra Solar Farm is a large 2-gigawatt facility located 22 miles from Abu Dhabi. The power station is jointly owned by clean energy company Masdar, Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. (TAQA), France’s EDF Renewables, China’s Jinko Power and Productivity Water and Electricity Company (EWEC).

It is expected to provide electricity to nearly 200,000 households every year and reduce carbon emissions by 2.4 million.

The completion of this project is critical in improving solar power efficiency, innovation and cost comparison, while setting a new record for low electricity prices.
