A London tribunal has ruled that Sony must face a massive lawsuit of up to £6.3 billion ($7.9 billion) alleging that it abused its dominant position on PlayStation, causing customers to pay unfair prices.

The plaintiffs allege that Sony abused its dominant position by demanding that digital games and add-ons only be purchased through the PlayStation Store and charging developers and publishers a 30% commission, causing customers to pay higher prices than normal.

The court ruled that the lawsuit could be continued, but the person who had purchased the goods in 2022 was struck off. The plaintiff stated that the ruling was the first step in ensuring that the consumer recovered the money owed. Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
