Google’s opening of Europe’s largest cybersecurity center in the southern Spanish city of Malaga highlighted the growing prevalence of cyberattacks that could disrupt the political system.

Global cyberattacks have increased by 38% last year, and Google is calling for international cooperation to address the threat. The European Parliament has warned of 230,000 malware downloads per day, highlighting that European elections could be a target for disinformation and online interference.

The Google Malaga Center will provide expert support to respond to cyber threats and train government officials and organizations. The company has spent years building its cybersecurity arsenal, acquiring cybersecurity company Mandiant for more than $5 billion last year.
