The London Court of Appeal upheld the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) by allowing it to open an antitrust investigation into Apple’s mobile browser and cloud gaming services.

The court reversed a previous ruling in favor of Apple, arguing that the CMA had the authority to investigate or weaken its regulatory powers. The CMA launched an investigation into Apple and Google’s mobile browser dominance last year. Apple claimed that the CMA did not have the authority to conduct such investigations, but the court said CAT had ignored the CMA’s role in promoting competition and protecting consumers in its ruling.

The CMA’s CEO welcomed the ruling and was ready to reopen the investigation once the legal process was completed. At the same time, Apple has the right to seek an appeal.
