Nikkei reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter, that Apple is allocating product development resources for iPads to Vietnam.

According to the report, Apple is working with BYD, China’s main iPad assembler, to transfer new product introduction (NPI) resources to Vietnam, which is the first time the company has transferred NPI resources for such core devices to Vietnam.

Pre-production engineering validation of the iPad model will begin around mid-February, and the model will be available in the second half of next year.

Apple and BYD did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.

Apple suppliers such as Luxshare Precision and Foxconn also invested in Southeast Asian countries earlier this year to further diversify production.
