Indonesia plays a key role in building the global electric vehicle (EV) supply chain during COP28, according to the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.

Indonesia has abundant nickel resources and can build a global EV supply chain to meet its net-zero commitments. The country encourages the promotion of electric vehicles in the domestic market and attracts more investment to increase electric vehicle production capacity.

Indonesia plans to have 2 million electric vehicles and 13 million e-bikes on the streets by 2030. The government offers incentives, including a discount of IDR 7 million (about US$450) on the purchase of e-bikes assembled with locally made parts.

The government also plans to attract more global EV manufacturers to open factories in Indonesia, making it a green car production hub in Southeast Asia.
