Toyota Motor North America has partnered with battery recycling company Cirba Solutions to strengthen its battery recycling network to achieve a closed-loop battery ecosystem and carbon neutrality goals.
The collaboration focuses on the collection, transportation, dismantling and processing of end-of-life lithium-ion electric vehicle batteries in the Midwest and East Coast. Processing will take place at Cirba Solutions’ state-of-the-art Ohio facility with recovery rates up to 95%.
Toyota plans to expand the collection of used car batteries every year, and through cooperation is expected to reduce transportation-related emissions by at least 70%.
The move is in line with Toyota’s vision for growth and a sustainable supply chain in the North American electric vehicle market.
