Vietnam, Cambodia agree to strengthen bilateral trade and Mekong cooperation

The governments of Vietnam and Cambodia have announced bilateral trade goals and plan to quickly double trade volume to US$20 billion. ​

After the meeting, the leaders of the two countries stated that bilateral trade volume will increase by 20% annually from 2015 to 2022, reaching US$10 billion last year.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Trinh and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet also agreed to strengthen defense and security cooperation during their meeting in Hanoi and pledged to abide by the principle of non-use of each other’s territory.

The two countries also plan to strengthen the management and sustainable use of Mekong River water, and stated that 84% of the land border demarcation work has been completed and the remaining 16% will be completed as soon as possible.
