Taiwan’s Gogoro Inc has launched its first electric scooter and battery swapping station in India, with plans to launch 120 battery swapping stations in Delhi, Pune, Mumbai and Goa by the middle of next year.

Chief executive officer Horace Luke said the launched CrossOver GX250 electric scooter is powered by a swappable battery and is initially available for delivery drivers and will be sold to consumers by the second quarter of next year.

Gogoro, which produces electric scooters in the western state of Maharashtra with partner Foxconn, signed an $8 billion deal with Indonesia and two local companies last year to build electric vehicles in India.

Battery swapping technology can help provide electrification services to India and drive the decarbonization of transportation in South Asian countries.
