Turkish Airlines plans to buy more than 200 Airbus aircraft over the next decade, with the possibility of another 100, aiming to become the world’s largest airline.

Chief executive officer Bilal Eksi said the entire order could be increased to 355 aircraft. The massive deal will be one of the largest in the aviation industry and will significantly expand its existing fleet of 439 aircraft.

The order involves 150 A321 NEO and 60 A350-900 for a total price of more than $40 billion. While there are differences in the details, the order will support Turkish Airlines’ strategic plan for 2023-2033.

This move makes it more competitive on the international stage, challenging U.S. competitors and consolidating its global leadership.
