World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations on global e-commerce rules have reached consensus and are scheduled to conclude next year.

Australia, Japan and Singapore, which jointly convened the talks, announced the substantial conclusion of negotiations on digital trade rules, covering areas such as digital trade facilitation, an open digital environment, and business and consumer trust. Issues such as electronic authentication, electronic signatures, and online consumer protection have been addressed.

Countries are still discussing regulation of telecommunications services, electronic payments and encryption technology, with the aim of completing negotiations in 2024. Representatives of the European Union and the United States welcomed the progress.
