Volvo Cars has announced that it will cease production of all diesel-powered models by early 2024, becoming one of the first traditional car manufacturers to take this step.

The decision reflects the company’s commitment to a comprehensive electrification roadmap, with plans to sell only all-electric vehicles by 2030 and to become climate neutral by 2040. The company’s last diesel-powered vehicle will be built within months.

Volvo’s CEO said electric powertrains are the future, with advantages such as lower noise, less vibration, low maintenance costs and zero tailpipe emissions. The company hopes this decision will inspire other companies to be bolder in their fight against climate change.
