The Port of Singapore set a new record on December 25, 2023, with the tonnage of ships arriving at the port exceeding 3 billion tons.

According to data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, the total tonnage was 2.83 billion last year and has exceeded 3 billion tons this year. The record-breaking vessel was the ONE OLYMPUS container ship, which arrived at Pasir Panjang Terminal on Christmas Day, carrying 8,628 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

The Port of Singapore has set records of 1 billion and 2 billion gross tons in the past in 2004 and 2011.

Singapore’s Transport Minister said that the key to success lies in the close cooperation between labor, capital and government, and the new port plan is also progressing smoothly and is expected to become the world’s largest fully automated container terminal by 2040.
