In Boston, Google faces a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Singular Computing involving its artificial intelligence processor.

Singular Computing accused Google of illegally using its patented technology to develop tensor processing units (TPUs) and initially sought damages of up to $7 billion. Court documents show that Google denies the infringement accusations, calling the Singular patent “dubious” and saying that its TPU is different from the patented technology.

Another case involving the validity of the Singular patent is currently before the U.S. Court of Appeals. The dispute could have a major impact on the field of artificial intelligence and technology giants.

According to a report by Air Street Capital, Google and Meta have the highest citation rates in the field of artificial intelligence research since 2020.
