Apple’s iPhone became the world’s best-selling smartphone for the first time in 2023, with sales reaching 234.6 million units, surpassing Samsung’s 226.6 million units, occupying 20.1% of the market share, leading Samsung’s 19.4%.

Analysts attribute Apple’s rise to the success of high-end devices like the iPhone. The Android operating system market is increasingly fragmented, with low-end competitors such as Transsion and Xiaomi and Huawei’s success in China taking a toll on Samsung.

IDC data shows that global smartphone shipments will drop 3.2% to 1.17 billion units in 2023, but the industry is recovering and is expected to perform better in 2024.
