LG Electronics plans to launch extended reality (XR) devices next year and enter the XR market to compete with Apple, Samsung and others.

LG CEO Cho Joo-wan revealed the company’s XR plan at the CES 2024 conference. LG has established a dedicated “XR business unit” and plans to accelerate the development of XR business. XR includes virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR). With the launch of Apple Vision Pro and other products, the XR market competition is becoming increasingly fierce.

LG has previously demonstrated a StreamVR prototype, and it is expected that the new XR device may use the latest Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform. Presence Research predicts that the global XR market will increase from US$41.56 billion in 2022 to US$859.35 billion in 2030.
