OpenAI plans to build a chip factory

OpenAI CEO Altman plans to raise $10 billion to build a network of semiconductor factories. The plan aims to address the global chip supply shortage and involves working with potential investors such as G42 and SoftBank to build a global fab network.

Altman probed a partnership with Microsoft and restarted a chip project that had been shelved due to his dismissal. He believes that with the popularization of artificial intelligence, the demand for chips will surge, and the existing production capacity will not be enough to meet it. The cost of building a state-of-the-art plant is expensive and can cost tens of billions of dollars.

Negotiations are still at an early stage, and the list of partners and investors has not yet been determined.
