Nokia and Oppo have signed a multi-year cross-licensing agreement for 5G standard essential patents, ending patent infringement litigation between the two companies since 2021. The agreement reflects mutual respect for intellectual property rights and will see Oppo pay royalties as well as additional fees.

The agreement will resolve legal proceedings in Europe, Asia and Australia, which banned sales of Oppo and OnePlus phones in Germany. Nokia Technologies President Jenni Lukander said the new agreement and other smartphone deals will provide long-term financial stability for the licensing business.

Oppo said it respects Nokia’s intellectual property rights and looks forward to cooperating to provide the best communication experience for users around the world.
