ByteDance plans to launch a 30-minute video feature to challenge YouTube, which is contrary to its classic short video route.

This new feature has been released in iOS beta and Android apps in the UK, aiming to attract more users and creators. Previously, TikTok gradually increased the length of videos with 15 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, and 10 minutes.

By testing 30-minute videos, TikTok could compete directly with YouTube, providing an opportunity to release full-length TV series and other long-form content. The feature may allow users to fast-forward by tapping on the right side of the video and holding it.

It’s uncertain if this feature will be rolled out across the board to all users. In addition, ByteDance is expanding its business globally.
