Samsung Electronics is positioning itself as the first AI smartphone by introducing Baidu’s Ernie Bot as a major highlight in the Galaxy S24 series launched in China.

Baidu’s AI tool will provide text summarization, organization, and translation capabilities, while supporting Samsung’s “circle search” feature. Although Google’s Android software is used in the Chinese market, Google’s add-on mobile services and app stores are not available, so Samsung chose Baidu as a partner.

The deal marks a significant adopter of Baidu’s Ernie AI and is part of an effort to create a competitor for OpenAI’s ChatGPT in China. For Samsung, the partnership with Baidu is expected to increase its share of the Chinese market, especially by integrating local services more deeply to attract consumers.
