Google has launched a new cybersecurity center in Japan, aiming to improve cyber defense capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region. The region faces serious cyber threats from criminal gangs and state-sponsored actors involving governments, militaries and critical infrastructure.

Google said the center will work with universities and governments to conduct cybersecurity research and plans to improve the cybersecurity of hundreds of thousands of small, medium and non-profit organizations in the region.

The United States and its allies have accused China of carrying out cyber attacks, while China has called the United States the “biggest hacker empire”, as both sides have launched a debate over cybersecurity.
