India signs $100 billion deal with European trade bloc

India and the four European Free Trade Association (Efta) countries signed a free trade agreement worth US$100 billion, aiming to promote investment and exports. The agreement stipulates that Efta countries will invest US$100 billion in India within 15 years.

India’s trade minister said the agreement would boost exports, investment and job growth. The agreement took 16 years to negotiate. The Indian Prime Minister said this symbolizes commitment to open and fair trade. The Swiss Economy Minister said the agreement will stimulate economic potential and create more opportunities.
