New investment interest generated from a roundtable and one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday could be worth RM45.4 billion.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Zafrul Abdulaziz said the potential investments cover a variety of industries, including semiconductors, aerospace, medical devices and chemicals. Business leaders from Germany, Belgium and other places attended the meeting.

Anwar held one-on-one meetings with officials from X-Fab, Melexis, Infineon, Schott and Airbus. Approval and construction of these investments are ongoing, including Infineon’s construction of the world’s largest silicon carbide power plant in Malaysia.

There are more than 700 German companies in Malaysia, creating 65,000 jobs. Since 2000, Germany has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner among EU member states, while Malaysia is Germany’s largest trading partner among ASEAN members. Total trade between Malaysia and Germany will increase by 5.9% to RM63.45 billion in 2023 from RM59.87 billion in 2022.
