Italian company IronLev claims to have completed the first magnetic levitation test on an existing railway track, a breakthrough that brings floating train technology closer to Europe. The trial on a railway line near Venice reached speeds of 70km/h, paving the way for the application of maglev technology on existing railway lines.

IronLev said this will bring significant efficiency, noise and vibration advantages, while also providing a clean, green and fast way to travel. Although maglev trains have been operating in Asia for many years, their rollout in Europe has been slow, with one obstacle being the high cost of the technology and adaptability of the infrastructure.

IronLev may have found a solution to these problems.
