At the “India Techade: Viksit Bharat Chip” event, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone of three semiconductor factories. India’s chip manufacturing plan is 70% subsidized by the government, turning India into a silicon manufacturing center.

The total investment in the three semiconductor factories amounts to Rs 1,250 crore, including a joint project between Tata Electronics Private Limited and Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The factory plans to launch 28-nanometer chips by the end of 2026, and will also produce 22-nanometer chips in the coming years.

The move could leverage local design talent and global investment to accelerate India’s growth in the global semiconductor industry.
