The United States plans to allocate more than $6 billion to Samsung Electronics Co. to help the company expand its projects in Texas, according to people familiar with the matter.

This plan is to promote the implementation of the “Chip and Science Act” to encourage the world’s top semiconductor companies to produce chips in the United States. Samsung announced a $17 billion investment in projects in Texas, but specific additional investment targets are unclear.

The plan is still in the preliminary agreement stage and is subject to change. The U.S. Commerce Department has not yet commented, nor has Samsung.
