Nvidia announced its expansion of cooperation with China’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer BYD and others to jointly develop artificial intelligence self-driving vehicles.

Although the United States unilaterally banned Nvidia from exporting its top artificial intelligence hardware to China, the move deepens Nvidia’s ties with the Chinese electric vehicle industry. BYD becomes the first Chinese automotive company to adopt NVIDIA DRIVE Thor, a system powered by powerful generative artificial intelligence capabilities.

Other Chinese EV companies such as Xpeng Motors, Li Auto, ZEEKR and GAC Aion have also adopted the platform. NVIDIA says this will revolutionize the automotive field and usher in a new era of generative artificial intelligence defining the driving experience.

Despite U.S. export restrictions, Nvidia said its automotive business will not be affected.
