The European Commission launched an investigation into Apple, Alphabet and Meta, questioning whether they violated the new Digital Markets Act.

The focus of the investigation includes Alphabet’s self-preference in Google Play and Google Search, Apple’s steering rules in the App Store and Safari, and Meta’s “pay or consent model.”

If violations are found, EU regulators can impose fines of up to 10% and order the companies to retain documents to monitor compliance.

The investigation is the first major test of Europe’s Digital Markets Act, targeting the internet’s “gatekeepers”.
