The Dutch government is willing to provide subsidies to Tata Steel if the company accelerates plans to reduce pollution at its IJmuiden plant.

The plant is one of the Netherlands’ largest emitters of greenhouse gases and has caused health concerns. The government hopes to reach an agreement with Tata Steel within a short period of time to quickly improve the living environment of residents and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, while retaining jobs and economic value.

The director of Tata Steel Netherlands said he was pleased with the government support but said further discussions were still needed.
