Tesla Inc has reached a settlement ahead of trial in a crash involving Autopilot, the system at the heart of Musk’s pursuit of self-driving cars.

Details of the settlement were not disclosed in court filings in San Jose, California. The trial involves the death of 38-year-old Apple engineer Huang in a Model X car accident in 2018. Investigation revealed he may have been distracted by a game on his phone.

Tesla has won similar cases twice. The Huang family claims Autopilot failed to prevent the accident, while Tesla claims Huang abused the system, with court documents showing he only had his hands on the steering wheel 34% of the time before the crash.

Tesla emphasizes that Autopilot is an auxiliary system that requires driver supervision.
