The chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee said they may extend the deadline for ByteDance to spin off TikTok by one year. The House of Representatives has given ByteDance six months to divest the app or face a ban.
Senators argued the extension was necessary to ensure success. Discussions also raised the possibility of extending it to 2025 or even after the presidential election. Many lawmakers believe TikTok poses a national security risk, and TikTok claims to have invested heavily in protecting U.S. data and storing it in the United States.
