The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that it will provide $6.4 billion in subsidies to Samsung Electronics to build an advanced semiconductor factory in Tyler, Texas.

Samsung Electronics originally planned to invest US$17 billion, but has now decided to increase the investment to US$45 billion, which is expected to be completed by 2030. The first factory is planned to start producing 4-nanometer and 2-nanometer semiconductors in 2026, and the second factory is planned to be put into production in 2027.

Samsung Electronics has become the third largest beneficiary of U.S. semiconductor subsidies, behind Intel and TSMC.
