The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published an Apple patent covering future smart glasses that can detect operating status and supply power to components at different rates to extend device operation time. The patent also covers multiple power states that determine whether to play content.

The patent describes a head-mounted device and lens, including conductive plates, contact pads, controllers and other components, to change power between low-power and high-power states to achieve the display of different content. The patent is primarily for smart glasses, but parts of it also apply to future headsets, including the Vision Pro2.

The patent was filed a month after the Apple Vision Pro was launched at WWDC23.
