A Chinese chipset manufacturer is about to produce 5nm chipsets for Huawei devices. This is due to the fact that Huawei’s smartphone sales have grown significantly, and the Kirin 9000S chip in its Mate 60 series is very popular.
In response to national security and export restrictions, SMIC has built a new semiconductor production line in Shanghai dedicated to manufacturing Huawei-designed chips.
While this manufacturing method may lead to higher costs, the production of 5nm chips is a major achievement for Huawei and SMIC.
