The Dutch newspaper Telegraph reported that the government is considering preventing top Dutch technology companies from moving their operations to other regions.

Semiconductor equipment maker ASML may expand outside the Netherlands, possibly France, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity. The government has set up a task force to address ASML’s concerns, including the supply of skilled manpower, environmental regulations and electricity supply.

The move reflects Dutch companies’ uneasiness about the business environment. While ASML has not yet made concrete plans to expand beyond its headquarters in the Netherlands, its concerns echo those of other Dutch companies looking to expand abroad in recent years.

Some of the government’s proposals, such as limiting the inflow of foreign students and reducing tax incentives to attract expatriates, have sparked anger from companies such as ASML.
