Chinese carmakers are promoting new electric vehicle models in the Australian market, benefiting from the Australian government’s emission reduction plans and vehicle subsidy policies.

Electric vehicles will account for 7.2% of new car sales in Australia in 2023, with BYD becoming the market leader, with sales increasing nearly six-fold and taking a 14% market share. In addition to Tesla, Chinese manufacturers such as SAIC Motor’s MG brand are also promoting the development of electric vehicles.

At the same time, the Australian government is encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles through tax incentives and the construction of charging stations. The move is attractive to consumers because they can save money on gas through government rebates and reduced charging costs. It is expected that electric vehicles will account for 18% of new car sales in Australia by 2032.
