The U.S. government is reportedly urging the Netherlands, Germany, South Korea and Japan to tighten restrictions on China’s access to semiconductor technology.

Sources revealed that the United States asked Japan to restrict the export of specialized chemicals needed for chip manufacturing to China, while putting pressure on the Netherlands to prevent it from providing semiconductor equipment services and repairs to China.

Tokyo and The Hague plan to decide whether to take tougher action after assessing the impact of existing restrictions. The Dutch Foreign Ministry and the U.S. Commerce Department declined to comment.

Japan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce stated that they frequently discuss export control issues with relevant countries.
