Former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick raised the idea of buying TikTok to potential partners, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, according to the Wall Street Journal.

U.S. legislation threatens to ban the TikTok app or force its sale. Kotick proposed the idea at the meeting and expressed interest to Bytedance Executive Chairman Zhang Yiming.

If sold, TikTok could be valued at hundreds of billions of dollars. Kotick led Activision Blizzard for more than 30 years, and his departure comes as the company faces accusations of sexual harassment and discrimination. His interest in TikTok has raised eyebrows, especially amid threats of legislation.
