The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) has called on the government to speed up the improvement of 5G connectivity in the industrial sector to promote technological advancement.

The survey shows that most respondents think 5G coverage is average or poor. The FMM president said the government should discuss improving 5G connectivity with telecom companies. Although the government plans to transform 3,000 smart factories by 2030, the survey shows that more than half of the respondents have not yet invested in smart manufacturing, mainly due to a lack of internal expertise and budget.

80% of respondents expressed the need for government support, with incentives, matching grants and double tax relief being the most popular. In factory operations, cloud computing, cybersecurity and the Internet of Things are considered the most important IR4.0 technologies.
