A report from market research company TrendForce shows that global smartphone production increased by 12.1% in the fourth quarter of 2023, reaching 337 million units, ending eight quarters of decline.

Demand for Apple’s iPhone 15 series is strong, with output increasing 58.6% in the fourth quarter to 78.5 million units, leading the market. Samsung’s fourth-quarter production fell by 11%, and its full-year production fell by 11.3%, narrowly leading Apple.

Chinese brands Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo had a mixed performance, with slight growth in the fourth quarter but declines for the full year, facing fierce competition and a lack of consumer spending.

Transsion’s brands Tecno, Infinix and itel performed outstandingly, with a growth of 11.3% in the fourth quarter and annual output exceeding 90 million. TrendForce expects the smartphone market to recover in 2024, with a focus on artificial intelligence applications.
