Uber has agreed to pay A$271.8 million ($178.3 million) to settle a lawsuit from Australian taxi operators and drivers.

A law firm has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of more than 8,000 drivers, alleging that Uber’s move to Australia caused them to lose income. An Uber spokesman said the company has contributed to state taxi compensation programs and the settlement will resolve remaining issues.

Law firms stress they don’t want excuses, but results.
