Unilever announced that it will lay off 7,500 employees worldwide to save approximately 800 million euros in costs. The layoffs will mainly affect office staff, with investments in new technology to improve productivity.

The company will spin off ice cream brands such as Ben & Jerry’s and Magnum into independent companies to focus on its core business and streamline operations.

CEO Schumacher said he would respect and take care of the affected employees. The company, headquartered in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, is one of the world’s three largest consumer goods multinational companies and owns many well-known brands.
