Xiaomi’s influence in the imaging field is not limited to smartphone hardware, and it is also developing new HDR image standards. Xiaomi is leading the project in partnership with China Electronics Technology Standards Institute, Huawei, Tencent, OPPO and Honor, aiming to establish a standardized framework for HDR image processing.
The standard will define how single-layer HDR images are transmitted, including formats, metadata, HDR to SDR conversion, and instructions for creating, editing, transmitting, and viewing single-layer HDR images.
The move was approved by the World Ultra HD Video Industry Alliance (UWA) and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
