China has issued new guidelines that ban the government from using U.S. processors from Intel and AMD and foreign databases such as Microsoft Windows, encouraging the use of domestic alternatives.

Government agencies are required to use safe and reliable domestic alternatives, and the list includes chips from Huawei and Phytium. The move could have a significant impact on Intel and AMD, with China accounting for 27% and 15% of their sales last year.

It’s an aggressive move by China to restrict use of U.S. technology and reflects geopolitical tensions in the global chip industry.
